| Mineral Makeup IngredientsYou've probably heard of mineral makeup ingredients, right? You know that it's all powders, and that's probably about it. Why don't you pull up a chair, and learn about where it comes from, and what it can do for your skin?
Mineral Makeup Ingredients
When you buy make up off the shelf, you probably don't take the time to read the ingredients. Well, even if you did, you probably wouldn't understand most of the words. What do they mean? Most are artificial dyes and fragrances, synthetic preservatives, oils and fillers.
These items can be upsetting your skin. You may experience no reaction, delayed reactions or severe reactions. If these ingredients bother you, you are a vegetarian or vegan, or you are interested in using a more natural alternative, why not try minerals?
My make up is made only from naturally occurring minerals. You will see names like titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, mica powder, iron oxide and serecite.
Titanium Dioxide: This is a natural anti- inflammatory agent and a natural sunscreen. (The sunscreen level of one application is about SPF 10, so with both layers you're automatically at SPF 20. However, I do not guarantee sun protection. Always use a sunscreen to prevent sun damage to your skin.) It's great for people with acne, rosacea, inflammatory skin conditions and post- surgical or post- chemical peel skin. This mineral can help reduce irritation and redness. Make up minerals are ideal for sensitive skin (remember, no fragrances, dyes or preservatives), and are perfect for any skin type.
Zinc Oxide: This mineral is a naturally occuring sunscreen. When added to makeup, it provides natural resistance to harmful UV rays. Most of my make up is around 20 SPF. However, you should still wear a sunscreen.
Kaolin Clay: The mildest of China clay, it offers great oil absorbing properties, without irritating skin. Also helps makeup adhere better to skin.
Iron Oxide: A naturally occurring mineral used for color. A very strong pigment, so often a little of these colors goes a long way.
Ultramarines: These are natural pigments.
Mica: Natural "glitter". It is often used to make colors shimmer and glitter. It occurs in nature in sheets and is ground up.
Serecite: This is a colorless mica. It is a often used in setting powder (the powder you use last to give your makeup staying power). It is white in color, but goes on clear and adds to the water resistance and fade/ crease- proof qualities of the makeup. Or, you can use it as a primer, underneath your makeup, to increase shine control if your skin is oily.
Magnesium Stearate: Also called "Magnesium Salt". It is not soluble in water, which helps keep the makeup water resistant. It helps improve adhesion
